Local businesses band together to fill retail gaps

The closure of a major retail outlet in Collie has prompted local businesses to act collaboratively to expand and diversify their product lines in order to service the community’s retail needs.

Collie’s Betta Home Living is now selling a range of manchester and home goods to complement the furniture and electrical goods already on offer, making it a one-stop-shop for homewares.

Drycleaners on Steere had already diversified its drycleaning service to offer wedding and commercial hire and haberdashery items. It now stocks a range of children’s clothing, baby goods, undergarments and socks.

Sportf1rst sells beachwear and accessories, footwear, sunglasses, bags and purses in addition to the sporting goods you’d expect to find in store.

In addition, there is a range of small businesses in Collie providing giftware, fashion, lingerie, party supplies, stationery, automotive, camping and pet supplies, hardware.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Officer Bec Woods says businesses have been quick to respond to the challenge.

“Collie businesses are banding together to make sure locals can get what they need without needing to head out of town,” says Mrs Woods.
