The Collie Art Gallery has once again launched one of regional Australia’s richest indivudal art prizes, following the success of the inaugural 2018 edition, which drew more than 500 entries nationally and attracted hundreds of visitors to the town.

The $64,000 total prize pool includes the acquisitive $50,000 Collie Art Prize (CAP2020) sponsored by the Collie Community Bank, two non-acquisitive Rotary Prizes, Whispering Pines People’s Choice Prize and the Collie Art Gallery Packers’ Prize.

ENTRIES

The Gallery is now calling on artists throughout the country to begin working on their pieces to address the theme of ‘Identity’. Entries open 31 October 2019, close 3 January 2020.

AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT

CAP2020, Rotary and Packers’ prize winners will all be announced at a gala event 29 February 2020. People‘s Choice to be awarded following the exhibition close.

EXHIBITION

An exhibition of the winners’ and finalists’ work is on show 10 am – 4 pm, seven days a week from 1 March until 5 April 2019. Entry fees apply.

Collie Labour Day Festival @ Collie Central Park

Central Collie will be a hive of activity on the Labour Day weekend in 2020 with plans in place to host the inaugural Collie Labour Day Festival.

The festival will be a chance to celebrate the wealth of year-round recreational activities afforded to people lucky enough to live in region.

Those with a competitive streak will be excited by the cycling and swimming races while keen anglers will be able to throw a line in in hopes of reeling in the biggest catch.

Feel the rumble as hundreds of Harley Davidsons are joined by the Collie Veteran Car Club for a parade through town followed by a Show and Shine in Johnston Street, near Soldier’s Park, for the Collie Labour Day Festival, Saturday, 1pm. Wave to the hogs as they head out on Sunday morning for their Sunday Thunder Run, returning to town to park up for the Sunday Festival Markets.

There’ll be plenty on offer for the whole family and those wanting to enjoy a more relaxed weekend as well with markets, live music and woodchops all set to take place in Central Park.

This season sees all the favourites plus some classes that haven’t run for some years take to the track such as the Formula 500’s.

Modified Sedans, Sprintcars, SSWA Street Stock Title,  V8 Super Sedans will all take to the track this season. Go to the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway website for all the details.
