Commercial Dive Academy is a leading dive school in Tasmania, offering a range of professional diving courses and certifications. Our focus is on providing our students with a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment while equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in the commercial diving industry. We are now expanding operations to add an additional training location in Collie. Diving will take place at Lake Kepwari.

The purpose of this position is to deliver and oversee commercial diver training for ADAS Part 1 (SCUBA to 30m) and ADAS Part 2 (SSBA to 30m) training in Collie, Western Australia. The position also ensures management of one staff member (standby diver) and the general up-keep and servicing of Part 1 and Part 2 dive equipment. The role is supported by CDA administration located in Tasmania.

Key responsibilities & duties

  • To train and assess students to become qualified commercial divers according to relevant requirements and legislation.
  • To comply with all Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme (ADAS) requirements and relevant Australian Standards (AS) 2815 legislation whilst delivering diver training.
  • To ensure a safe work environment for staff and students.
  • To ensure all equipment (including dive equipment, general equipment, vessels, vehicles etc) are well-maintained and serviced as appropriate according to CDA’s Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
  • To perform all minor repairs to equipment as required to run courses successfully.
  • To oversee course preparation, including equipment preparation, paperwork and student folder preparation and assist with course logistics.
  • To participate in the review and update of relevant dive procedures, manuals and documentation, including site risk assessments, operational manuals and training documentation.
  • To comply with any quality, environmental and health & safety policies and procedures within CDA that apply to the role.

Academic or trade qualifications

  • Current ADAS Part 2 (SSBA to 30m) Commercial Diver qualification, or equivalent (essential)
  • Current ADAS Part 2 Onshore Supervisor qualification, or equivalent (essential, or eligible to complete)
  • Current Diver Medic Technician qualification
  • Current Kirby Morgan Hat Technician qualification (preferred, but not essential)
  • ADAS Diver Trainer status (DT), or willing to complete training to become an ADAS Diver Trainer / ADAS Training & Assessment Manager (ATAM). This may involve spending additional time at other CDA training locations to gain the skills and experience needed to become an ADAS Dive Trainer.
  • Certificate IV in Adult Teaching, or willing to obtain within the first 12 months of employment at CDA.


Work experience and skills

  • Experience in training commercial dive students to ADAS requirements preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and time management skills.
  • To be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
