Jodie Hanns MLA

Born and raised in Yarloop, Jodie attended Yarloop Primary School and Harvey Senior High School before shifting to Perth to attend university. Since 2006 Jodie has resided in Collie with her husband and two children.

Jodie worked as a high school teacher and Vocational Education and Training Coordinator throughout Western Australia and most recently Deputy Principal at Collie Senior High School. Jodie’s focus was helping students to find successful training and employment outcomes in the local community.Whilst on parental leave, Jodie worked as CEO of the Collie Chamber of Commerce and Industry. With her family having owned a small business she put that knowledge to good use to support local small businesses in Collie.

Jodie also served as a Collie Shire Councillor for two terms, before being elected to Parliament in March 2021 to represent the Collie-Preston electorate and work alongside the Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan and his WA Labor team.

Jodie has played a leading role in Collie’s Just Transition process, which has been recognised nationally and internationally as a model for supporting workers and communities as they transition their local economies.

In December of 2022, Jodie was appointed to the role of Parliamentary Secretary to the Hon. Mark McGowan, Premier of Western Australia. In June 2023 was appointed to the role of Parliamentary Secretary to the Hon, Stephen Dawson, Minister for Emergency Services; Innovation and the Digital Economy; Science; Medical Research; Minister assisting the Minister for State and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade in the Cook Labor Government.
