SHINING A LIGHT ON BMX

THE Collie BMX Club will be back racing with lights this month following a $10,000 grant from Community Bank Collie.

Collie BMX Club president Stephanie Slapp said the previous lights were stolen by vandals when the club folded years ago. The track was also badly damaged and needed to be almost completely rebuilt.

“New lighting will allow the atmosphere to come back, like it was when we were kids,” Stephanie said.

“It will allow for a lot more members and so people can come to Friday night practice, which we couldn’t do before because there wasn’t enough light.”

The club races all year round, except for a break in the July school holidays.

To join the Collie BMX Club, new members can attend Friday night practice from 4.30pm to 6pm, or Sunday racing from 9am to midday.
